Celebrate Advent & Christmas Eve at Roots!

Advent and Christmas are an invitation to see how God uses small moments to bring about big miracles. This season we will use lines from the Christmas song, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and the first two chapters of Luke’s Gospel to welcome the season. It’s going to be a really special, sweet season together. What is better than singing Christmas songs with the glow of the lights and being together during a busy season just focusing on the gift that is God With Us?

And guess what?! To try and reduce some of the stress of the season, we are going to be providing a free meal before worship every week of Advent! That’s right. We will have food for you 11/26 (with a special night of decorating for Christmas instead of worship!), 12/3, 12/10, and 12/17 at 6:30pm. Grab a plate, share the table with someone, and then head into worship. We hope it brings a little more hope, joy, peace, and love into your Christmas! If you’d like to help with the meals, let us know! Jessica Looze and Pastor Lora are coordinating.

Special Note - Christmas Eve is on a Wednesday, so it’s a pretty normal schedule for us. But invite your people! There is something so so so magical about a candlelight Christmas Eve service.

The Cozy Collective: Soup! - November 30 @ 4:30pm

We are SO excited for this new small group opportunity! We will gather together, make a huge batch of soup, eat it together, and then you’ll be able to take home a serving to eat later in the week! All you need to do is RSVP by 11/29 so that we can get the right amount of ingredients and then show up.

This month we are making 3 Sisters’ Stew, a vegeterian stew using the ingredients from traditional Indigenous farming technique where beans, corn, and squash are planted together to mutually benefit one another. It will be the perfect soup right after our It’s Giving celebration the week before.

Our hope for December’s Cozy Collective is a cookie baking part, so stay tuned if there is enough interest!

Caroling @ The Dub - December 14 @ 7pm

We have been SO excited to tell you that Roots is teaming up with The Dub, the new women’s sports bar downtown, for a night of holiday cheer! Come and sing all your favorite carols and support this new, inclusive place in KC! We will be leading the singing, the kitchen and bar will be open, and you might even be able to watch your favorite team on the screen at the same time. All ages welcome (lots of NA options for everyone to enjoy!). Save the date, invite your friends, and get ready for a great night!

BIPOC & Queer Group - Every Other Week (Next up: 11/11, 11/25, 12/9

Calling folks who are both LGBTQ and BIPOC! Join leader Alexandria for an amazing group. Check our socials for updates the week of the meetings. Next up: 11/11, 11/25, 12/9.

*Note: white folks this is not the group for you. We believe that affinity groups like this are an important tool in community building and conversations can happen in that space that need to limit participation to LGBTQ BIPOC folks.
